Battlestar Galactica PC Game

Battlestar Galactica is simply one of the most popular television shows right now. Again, having some of the most beautiful and visually enticing space battle seen in quite a while definitely adds to the attraction. Unfortunately, this can not be said of Battlestar Glactica, the downloadable PC game and the Xbox Live Arcade. The entire intricacy of the television series has been discarded for an annoying and twitch heavy arcade game play experience.

Battlestar Galactica the arcade game you will not be piloting in the cockpit of a Viper since the game play is from a top down view. Established loosely on the initial three seasons of the series (exactly up to the exodus from New Caprica set at the start of the third season), Battlestar Galactica allows you to fly as a Colonial fighter pilot in several space crafts. Although the maneuvering characteristics are a bit different between space crafts, the overall premise of the game stays the same. You pilot a space craft in a 2D space combat arena, utilizing guns and missiles to eliminate enemy space crafts. Even though, it is an arcade game, Battlestar enthusiasts were almost certainly expecting more depth and detail than what was provided.

The game’s visuals are inconsistent and patchy. As an example, the fighters are rendered in fitting detail, but the other elements in the game are detailed in quite low polygon and low resolution like the Cylon Basestars or Galactica herself. Plus, the sound effects appear to be taken directly from the television series, thus you can hear the unique sound of a Viper’s cannons firing, although since all of the dialogue is seen as text on screen, the game does not feature any type of voice acting. Additionally, the game lacks Bear McCreary’s magnificent and impressive Battlestar musical score, which is quite strange since this is an officially licensed game.

This arcade game most likely will not interest diehard Battlestar Galactica fans since it just does not portray the essence or the intricacy of its television inspiration.

    Hmmmm… how does it feel to be like a colonial fighter then? That would be a great feeling I guess. I remembered playing that pearl harbor game and it felt like i was there fighting against those bombing gliders or whatever they are.

    Although you noted that this Galactica arcade game most likely will not interest diehard Battlestar Galactica fans since it just does not portray the essence or the intricacy of its television inspiration, we still don’t know. Maybe there’s a catch along the game that will make the player get stuck?

    Here is my opinion:

    Pros:

    * Playability very good.
    * The control of the ship.
    * Price.

    Cons:
    * No multiplayer.
    * No options online.
    * Very Little originality.

    So in genereal I think Battlestar Galactica is not a bad PC game, but its a kind of old fashioned pc game. If you likemultiplayer pc games and like to play with friends this game is not for you! But if you are a lonelty man like me, play it ;)

    Lonely Battlestar Galactica Fan.

    About for years ago I watched the reimagined Battlestar Galactica for the first time. Weird I know, but I actually purchased the miniseries on DVD and bacame kinda’ engrossed - enough that I told everyone it was the best show on TV. Your description of the game makes me curious and I may just have to give it a go.

    The Battlestar Galactica is a great TV series and so its followers are keen to continue the Galactica experience. I am game to experiencing new things and my nephew and I will be trying out the free demo. He is a teenager and he is a pro when it comes to PC games.
    Cool to read some of the comments by your web visitors. The lack of mulitiplayer capability should not be a deterrent. I can enjoy playing a pc game in solitude.

    Hmm. About this game, I have honestly never been a great space sci-fi fan, whoever I have watched the Battlestar Galactica tv series and can’t say they’re bad.
    I heard someone downloaded the demo so I had to call them for this one, they thought it was lacky. I thought about downloading it as well, and even if I’m not a diehard fan of the series, I can pretty much say it’s just not as appealing as the show and really don’t fancy playing it.
