Back in the early 80’s there was a game called Spy Hunter by Bally Midway that took arcade games to the next level.  Retrospec has made a very similar version of this with their exciting game called Highway Pursuit.

You control a car with machine gun bullets and must travel a long distance without being destroyed from other cars, trucks and helicopters.  Along the way, 18 wheelers will appear that can give you powerups like smoke stacks, oil slicks and missiles.  You can use these bonuses to get  those pesky cars off your tail and make your journey easier.  There are also many different landscapes and road types you will encounter the further you manage to get in the game, like pavement, dirt and snow.

One thing I really liked was that you can play with a joystick or gamepad.  This makes the car much easier to control than using a keyboard.  After your game is over don’t forget to submit all your scores to a vast database of Internet high scores that have been compiled over the years.

Highway Pursuit is currently at version 1.1 and is totally free to download and use forever.  The file size is very small at only 3.20 MB.  You can download the game at this link.  I would have to give this game very high marks for fun and challenging with a high replay value.  If you like classic arcade games, don’t miss out on this one.
