UniBall PC Game Review

UniBall is one of the longest running independent FREE games on the Internet.

Josh “C:\” Langley, originally came up with the concept in 1998, and since then UniBall has developed into an amazing fast-paced game of both teamwork and individual skill that is nothing like any other game on the internet. The community has grown with players, constantly learning new skills and strategies in order to compete with the best.

At the core, UniBall resembles a simple hockey or soccer-like game, set in outer space. You control your ship to defend your goal, knock the ball away from opponents, pass to teammates, and shoot to score! For experienced players, UniBall becomes much more of a teamwork and strategy game where different skills such as ball-handling, learning tendencies of opponents and teammates along with other team-based strategies will take you to the next level.

UniBall has many different community created maps that you are able to play on, as well different game modes. The most common of these modes is called “hockey”. The objective is to score enough points against your opponent to win the game in a individual or team match up. There is also a dodge ball mode, where each team is given a different color and the object is to hit the opposing team with the ball and reach the score limit before the other team. Lastly, there is even racing! You and your teammates must race around the track, boosting and hitting other opponents into walls, so that you do not cross the finish line last.

For all of the competitive players, UniBall offers many different leagues and tournaments to compete in, the majority of them created by its community members. The official UniBall ladder ranks individual community member in 1vs 1 ladder duels, and squads in team ladder matches. At the end of a ladder season (typically one month), the top duelist and top squad are given a distinct chat color as well as unique chat icons to distinguish themselves from the rest.

Bundled with UniBall is BR Chat, the game’s chat client and squad manager. Here you will chat with other players, join or create your own squads, join leagues or tournaments, and receive help and support from the administration staff. BR Chat is the number one resource to meet and interact with the community. Some of UniBall’s players have been around for 10 years and still chat with the people they’ve met to this day, so it’s a great place to meet some new people and get involved.

Once you get a feel for the controls and start interacting with the community you’ll understand how truly addictive this game can be. Beyond the simple concepts lies a surprisingly complex game that can take a lifetime to master.

it looks like a nice arcade game but we need more free games like civilization and red alert, old versions is ok, but this one is a simple game for kids, this is what I think, please more free games, thanks anyway.

    Hello.

This game is one of competition and strategy. It is like soccer broken down to the fundamentals. To the earlier comment about it being a simple game for kids, I am sure kids could enjoy it as well, but it is about mind versus mind, and adults have well-developed minds.

As McCheese said, it looks very simple and the concept is. However, so are sports in general. You have two teams and some rules, which are generally easy to understand. Actually playing, and being good at the game however, is a different level.

There is a developed community, 10 years in the making. Which makes UniBall more then a game, but also a place to socialize in and out of game.

Give it a try, and make SURE to login to BR Chat and let us know who you are! Don’t let the learning curve steer you away from a truly great game that will entertain for years to come.

Mental exercises are very important, especially as you get older. My grandfather asks that I send him crossword puzzles. He’s 86, and he’s not about to play a pc game. However, younger adults are more willing. PC games are a staple of our 21st century, and young and old use them.

I exercise mentally by reading, but I wish I had more time for this type of pc games. Or, maybe I should say, I wish I made the time.

I actually tried this game but just a couple of minutes after i tried it i had to uninstall. I got kicked out of games, i got called several names, etc. Probably one of the worst game communities i have ever seen.
This game might have been good in 1998 but now it looks way too simple and the atitude of the community sure doesn’t help the game. I guess the guy from the first post was right when he said that this game is for kids.
    Not worth trying 3/10

    Hello,

This game is full of compitition and strategy. Although it looks simple from the outside, when you sit down and take the time to learn the game you will find out that this is one of the few games on the internet where team work is key. If you join the community, get on BR Chat and talk with some of the players you will find out there are many players that are willing to sit down and help show you the basic things you need to know to excel in the game.

Like all things this game takes some work to get used to and you will find that you can always get better and learn something new.

Like John said all sports look simple but actually playing and being good at them take time. This is one of those games.

Rating 10 out of 10. I highly recommend this game. When you join the game make sure you get on BR Chat and get up with one of the many players that will sit down and teach you the fundamentals. If you give this game more than 10 minutes of your time I garentee you will stay with it for the next 10 years.

Thank you for the informative news, I follow you in fb and twitter. I wish there were more free games offered in pcgametrek.

For uniball I have a problem:I cannot install the complete game, it simply stops at ~75%. No error message, nothing. I tried downloading it twice, the downloaded filesize is 902kb. What are the system requirements? Is that because I have an old pc?

  8. Posted September 8, 2010 at 6:44 am | Permalink

    Hey Arcade,

The only requirements is a Windows OS and an internet connection. The age of the computer does not matter.

This is a great game of strategy, teamwork, and individual will. I am one of the members that has been around for 10 years and have watched this game grow and shrink. Unfortunately there are players that are not as welcoming to the newer persons of this game, but if you make yourself known on the chat client and ask for help it is there. You just need to play through some of the jerks, just like any online gaming community there will be those who hide behind their screen. I go by the nick of kobra, if you are new and want help feel free to ask.
